Europe’s first signposted marathon course for inline skaters makes a circuit in the Rhine Valley and appeals to families and groups (schools) as well as keen skaters.
The Marathon Skate route is Europe’s first circuit signposted over the original marathon distance. What was planned for inline skaters is of course open to all skaters wanting to test themselves over some 42 km. The course has several tricky changes of direction as well as a few ramps and descents from the Rhine dam to the plain, whereby the course simulates a standard competition stretch.
The ideal starting point is at the sports complex and swimming pool in Widnau, where changing rooms, showers as well as good leisure activities are available. Anyone not wanting to cover the stretch in one go can visit the swimming pool in Oberriet, the southern turning point, directly on the route.
The Marathon Skate route is perfectly integrated into the landscape. Skating along the Binnen canals and old lanes where poplar trees seem to fly past, you enjoy distant views of the Alpstein peaks and the rolling hills of the Appenzell region.
