Guangzhou metro – tai hao le!
Today it was time to take the metro to work. I left from home at 7:35, starting the day with a nice 15 minutes walk to Lujiang metro station, along with my colleague Irene. We entered the metro station – very nice and clean – waived our Yang Cheng Tongs – and after a short while we could get on the train to Kecun. The train was full of people going to work, so we were standing pretty packed, but it all went well. At Kecun, we changed to line 3 headed for the Guangzhou Dong, then we changed again at Tiyu Xi and got off at Linhexi, just a few metres from where we work. Total time used – 50 minutes, total cost (with discount) 2,85 quai. Not bad!
The only thing I wished for during my trip was a little bit more space. In a way – the Guangzhou metro is “tai hao le” – it is clean, efficient and inexpensive – which means it becomes very popular, and, as a result, quite crowded. The Guangzhou government is rapidly expanding the metro, both in terms of lines and capacity – so maybe, by the time of the Asian Games, metro becomes an even better choice for commuters. It is quicker than anything above the ground – that’s for sure!
In my hometown, Oslo, we have both metro and trams which move above the ground. It is a popular means of transport, and many people use it for their daily commute. It is certainly less crowded, but the Guangzhou metro moves faster and is more modern!
Tomorrow, I will go by taxi to work.
